MNI BRIEF: BOJ Review May Not Lead To Policy Change: Press

The Bank of Japan is considering a review of its easy policy settings with a focus on the long-term effects and may start discussions on it as early as the upcoming April 27-28 meeting, the Sankei Shimbun Reported on Sunday.

While the potential review will not lead to policy change, it could inform future BOJ decisions on the removal of its long-term interest-rate target, the newspaper said. The policymakers will likely analyse Japan’s economic slump over the long-term and the impact of the past monetary and fiscal policies on the economy and prices.

BOJ Governor Kazuo Ueda had said it would be a good idea to take an overall look at what the Bank had done and how it should proceed. The BOJ conducted policy reviews in 2016 and 2021 but did not conduct a long-term assessment.
