MNI BRIEF: Can’t Rule Out New Joint EU Borrowing: Gentiloni

-“Real discussion” on possible new joint borrowing “in a few weeks”

(MNI) Brussels

While new joint EU borrowing in response to the Ukraine conflict could not be ruled out, any serious discussion would only come once the wider economic outlook became clearer, Economy Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni said Tuesday.

“The real discussion will take place in few weeks from now when we have a clear view of the economic impact of this crisis. But we can’t take this off the table,” Gentiloni said. The Commission is due to release its updated Spring Forecast in mid-May and Gentiloni said earlier that forecasts were set to be revised lower.
