MNI BRIEF: China Actively Considering  CPTPP Entry: Xi

BEIJING (MNI)

China is actively considering joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership(CPTPP), a free trade deal previously championed by U.S., President Xi Jinping said Friday, state news agency Xinhua reported.

Countries in the Asia-Pacific region should unswervingly support the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization at its core and promote free and open trade and investment, said Xi in speech at The APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting. MNI previously reported that high-level Chinese policy advisors advocate China should join the CPTPP, which was abandoned by the Trump administration in 2017, as the U.S. may revisit the deal under Joe Biden's Administration.
