MNI BRIEF: Shanghai's Return To Normal Life In June-Official
The city has seen over a month of strict lockdowns to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Shanghai is expected to return normal life and operations in June with a condition that current strict controls manage to curb the Covid-19 spread, a senior Shanghai official said on Monday in a press conference.
The daily new cases of the pandemic fell to below 1,000 for the time on Sunday and 15 out of 16 city districts have seen zero-Covid-19 cases outside quarantined areas, Shanghai deputy mayor Zong Ming said.
However, there is still a risk for cases to rebound, particularly in quarantined areas and some old compounds, he said, noting the authorities will enhance controls before May 21 and try to reopen the city gradually and accordingly from May 22 to May 31.
