MNI BRIEF: China Export Controls On Aerospace & Shipping Items

China will begin implementing export controls on certain aerospace and shipbuilding items, according to a Ministry of Commerce notice on Thursday.

Items subject to control include specific molds, software, technology, and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber, the notice said. In taking action, China was drawing on international practices to better maintain national security and fulfil international obligations, and was not targeting any specific country or region. The measures come into effect June 1.

China’s long-term trade prospects, increased international competitiveness, and push into liquified natural gas vessels will help drive further sustainable growth in the country’s shipbuilding industry following a 95.4% y/y production increase an expert recently told MNI.
