MNI BRIEF: China Hog Market More Balanced In Q2 - Ministry

MNI (Beijing)

China’s hog supply and demand will become more balanced in Q2 under policy guidance from the government, Li Jinghui, representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, told reporters on Friday.

Market overcapacity was being reduced, with the number of breeding sows, medium and large pigs, and newborn piglets all showing a downward trend, Li added.

Pork prices, a major CPI driver in China, will rise steadily in H2 as government policy to reduce breeding sow population reasonably using market mechanisms to deal with excessive supply takes effect, an agricultural policy advisor has told MNI.
