MNI BRIEF: China Won't Give Ground For US Meeting: Ambassador

BEIJING (MNI)

China won't give in on sovereignty issues to create a good "environment" for the forthcoming meeting with the U.S. in Alaska, Cui Tiankai, the Chinese Ambassador to the U.S., said in an interview with state media.

If someone thinks the Chinese side will make compromises and concessions, I would advise my colleagues in Beijing to cancel this trip as soon as possible, Cui said on CCTV, marking the toughest stance since President Joe Biden took office.

The meeting will be successful if it starts a process of candid, constructive and rational communication between the two countries, Cui said, echoing market expectations.
