MNI BRIEF: China To Focus On High Quality Connectivity-Wang Yi

MNI (BEIJING)

China's belt and road initiative (BRI) will focus on green investment to build up trans-Eurasian connectivity platforms, with a focus on railways, green infrastructure and digital platforms, according to Wang Yi, China's Foreign Minister.

Speaking at a belt and road press conference on Wednesday, Wang told reporters Chinese financial institutions would use the initiative to enhance the Yuan internationally. Going forwards, China will ensure the BRI initiative was green, with investment in sustainable infrastructure a priority, Wang said. BRI members cooperating together will bring stability to the world, he added.

On Wednesday PBOC Governor Pan Gongsheng said the central bank will support countries under the Belt and Road initiative to develop green finance and promote their issuance of green bonds in China (See: MNI BRIEF: PBOC To Support Belt & Road Green Bond Issuance - Bonds & Currency News | Market News)
