MNI BRIEF: Copom Worried About Inflation Expectations - Campos
MNI ((MNI) BRASILIA) - MNI (BRASILIA) - The governor of Brazil's central bank, Roberto Campos Neto, said Tuesday that inflation expectations above the 3% target are a point of concern for the monetary policy committee (Copom), though recently they "seem to be stabilizing."
"In terms of inflation expectations and what the market anticipates, we've seen what we refer to as deanchoring, where expectations have increased. This is clearly a concern for the central bank," Campos Neto stated during a public hearing at the Congress in Brasília.
"We have observed that implied inflation, derived from government bonds, has also begun to rise. However, it appears to be stabilizing recently," he added. (See MNI POLICY: BCB Divided Over Risks To Inflation)
