MNI BRIEF: Covid-Hit EU Firms Face Ceding Stakes To Banks

Ongoing public support for European firms struggling under the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic could take the form of equity stakes or hybrid investments by the private financial sector, EU Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis said on Tuesday, after EU sources earlier told MNI that investment banks could be hired to help decide which firms are viable and merit continued assistance.

Noting the suspension of EU state aid rules until the end of the year, Dombrovskis added that such investments could also be undertaken by the public sector.
