MNI BRIEF: EC Says First Priority Is Deal With US Not Tariffs

Brussels' top priority remains getting a deal with the US not tariff retaliation

MNI (LONDON) - The EU Commission reiterated that its first priority remains working out a "mutually beneficial outcome" with the US following US President Trump's threat to impose 25% tariffs on steel and aluminium imports, EC Trade Spokesperson Olof Gill said Monday. At the same time, the Commission remains "prepared for all outcomes", Gill added, "should that become necessary."  He said that the Commission had not been notified by the US of any tariff action despite the comments from Trump.
