MNI BRIEF: EC Working 'Constructively' Poland/Hungary RRF Plan

(MNI) Brussels

Despite recent extensions to the deadlines for approving the Polish and Hungarian recovery plans, a Commission spokesperson says it is "working constructively" with the two countries to conclude its assessment "as quickly as possible".

The Commission has already extended its deadline for the Hungarian plan until the end of September, while the assessment of the Polish plan is still continuing despite the passing of an August 1 deadline. "This process continues to ensure the assessment against the objectives and requirements of the Regulation can be completed. It is in our mutual interest to arrive at a point when the Commission has all the necessary information at its disposal to conclude its assessment," the spokesperson said.

Optics around the Commission's consideration of the two plans has been politically fraught as a result of the rule of law and human rights breaches in the two countries.
