MNI BRIEF: EU Adopts Fisheries Contingency Plan Proposal

BRUSSELS (MNI)

With fisheries one of the outstanding issues in the EU/UK trade talks, the European Council has approved a Commission contingency plan to adopt if no agreement is reached with London.

The proposal is for UK ships to continue fishing in EU waters and vice versa on current quotas until a deal is reached . Both the EC and EuCo have agreed to bypass national parliaments in approving the contingency arrangement. As yet, there has been no response from London on the proposals
