MNI BRIEF: EU Rejects China EV Peace Offer - Gill
MNI (BRUSSELS) - The EU has rejected voluntary price undertakings from Chinese exporters of electric vehicles to the EU in a bid to end the dispute between the two sides over China's subsidisation of the industry, EU Commission Trade Spokesperson Olof Gill said today.
Gill refused to provide details of the producers' price offer, saying only that any such offer would have to "adequately compensate" for the injury done to the EU domestic EV industry as a result of China's subsidisation of the sector and would have to be compliant with WTO rules, indicating that this was not the case and that the Commission would therefore continue its talks with China in order to find a solution to the dispute.
Executive Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis and his Chinese counterpart Wang Wentao will meet on September 19 in Brussels to discuss and other EU-China trade issues.
