St. Louis Fed President James Bullard told reporters Friday he wants the FOMC to announce plans to taper QE in September and "to start sometime after that," and he would like to start hiking interest rates by the end of 2022.
That contrasted with a more cautious Fed Chair Jerome Powell, who said Wednesday the economy has made some progress to justify taper discussions, but not enough. MNI has reported the Fed could delay tapering if jobs, particularly the employment-to-population ratio, do not make significant further gains in the fall.
