MNI BRIEF: Fed Will Eventually Return To Review Of SLR -Powell
MNI (WASHINGTON) - The Federal Reserve will return to a review of banks' supplemental leverage ratios in part to improve the Treasury market functioning, Chair Jerome Powell told Congress on Wednesday.
"I have for a long time, like others, been somewhat concerned about the levels of liquidity in the Treasury market," Powell told lawmakers on Capitol Hill. "The amount of Treasuries has grown much faster than the intermediation capacity has grown and one obvious thing to do is to lower, is to is to reduce the effective supplemental leverage ratio with the bindingness of it. So that's something I do expect we will return to and and work on with our with our new colleagues at the other agencies and get done." Powell did not offer a specific timeline.
