MNI BRIEF: Galipolo Approved By Congress For BCB Governor
BRASILIA (MNI)
Gabriel Galipolo has been serving as the Central Bank of Brazil's Deputy for monetary policy.
Brazil's central bank deputy governor for monetary policy Gabriel Galipolo was approved by Congress on Tuesday to replace Roberto Campos Neto as governor next year. In the plenary session, 66 senators voted in favor of his appointment, and 5 against it.
Earlier, during a hearing with senators from the Economic Affairs Committee, he advocated for a more prudent monetary policy amid risks such as unanchored expectations and stronger-than-expected economic activity.
Campos Neto's mandate expires on Dec 31, and Galipolo will take office on Jan 1. He was appointed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. (See MNI INTERVIEW: More Brazil Budget Freezes If Needed -Guimaraes)
