MNI BRIEF: Gentiloni: Banks Key Deciding Which Firms Survive

Banks will have a key role to play as EU states move towards more targeted fiscal support next year, in determining which firms have a long-term future post-pandemic, EU Economic Affairs Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni said Thursday, noting that they "are well placed to identify which businesses are fundamentally solid, and to facilitate debt restructuring".

"This kind of early engagement with viable firms can contribute to preventing a rise in non-performing loans, while protecting employment," the commissioner added in a speech to the European Banking Federation Summit today.
