MNI BRIEF: Investor Optimism Cools on Inflation Concern-Gallup

Optimism among U.S. investors improved through Q2, with the Gallup Investor Optimism Index up 13 points to 39 from 26 in Q1, though researchers said the index would have been higher if not for "deteriorating views of inflation."

Investors' 12-month outlook for inflation worsened in Q2, and net optimism fell 15 points to -43. More than 70% of investors surveyed said they believed the recent rise in consumer prices will be a "sustained change," while 28% said they consider it temporary. Investors were more optimistic about employment (up 13 points) and overall economic growth (up 9 points).

Gallup researchers noted that the data was collected between June 22 - 29, before the BLS released it's June CPI report which saw y/y inflation accelerating at the fastest pace since 2008.
