MNI BRIEF: Italy Seeks Brussels Nod To Amend NGEU Plan

(MNI) Brussels

Italy is looking to amend its NGEU plan and include an additional REPowerEU chapter, with Rome asking the European Commission if it can modify the plan based on the need to factor in recent global headwinds such as high inflation and supply chain constraints.

Italy's allocation under the REPowerEU chapter in terms of new grants is EUR2.76 billion.

Brussels will assess whether the modified plan still fulfils the criteria outlined in the RRF Regulation -- a positive outcome lead to a proposal for the amendments to be approved by EU states. EU finance ministers will then have up to four weeks to endorse the Commission's assessment. (See MNI: Italy Seeks To Avoid More NextGenEU Payment Delays)
