MNI BRIEF: Beijing Opposes U.S. Measures Against Chinese Steel

MNI (Beijing)

Beijing opposes recent U.S. accusations against Chinese steel and aluminium trading practices, calling measures against its steel industry unilateral and protectionist, a statement from the Ministry of Commerce said Thursday.

Washington is ignoring the international trade order and politicizing economic issues, the statement noted. Additionally, the U.S. putting pressure on other countries to restrict Chinese products will undermine the security and stability of global industrial and supply chains.

Chinese demand for steel and copper construction products will decline over the second half despite government support measures, while appetite for those commodities used in manufacturing will grow as industrial output strengthens, local researchers have told MNI.
