MNI BRIEF: BOJ, Govt Bought JPY2.84 Trln Of Yen Against Dollar

The Japanese government and the Bank of Japan bought JPY2.84 trillion of yen against the U.S. dollar to prop up the currency on Sept. 22, Ministry of Finance data on forex exchange intervention operations released on Friday showed.

The total of foreign exchange intervention operations for the period from August 30 through September 28, 2022 was JPY2.8382 trillion, the MOF said.

BOJ data released on Tuesday showed a total of JPY3.6 trillion of Treasury funds and other funds were absorbed from the money market, indicating the BOJ drained the funds in the wake of the yen-buying intervention.
