MNI BRIEF: Lords Report Urges NI Reset As UK-EU Tensions High

(MNI) London

A House of Lords Committee report into the Northern Ireland Protocol states that tensions between the United Kingdom, the European Union and the Republic of Ireland are very high and the difficulties around the protocol, which covers trade between Great Britain, NI and RoI "currently appear insoluble."

It urges a reset, with fresh negotiations to rebuild trust on all sides. In an MNI interview Lord Jay, who heads the Lords Committee, said that the grace periods for some goods would inevitably be extended beyond the current September expiry date.
