MNI BRIEF: Macron Stresses EU Unity Need Post US Vote
France's Emmanuel Macron and Germany's Scholz stress EU unity in the wake of Trump's election.
MNI (BRUSSELS) - French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted Wednesday that he and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will work together for a more united, stronger and more autonomous Europe given the "new context" following the election of Donald Trump as President of the U.S.
"I have just talked with Chancellor Olaf Scholz. We will work for a more united, stronger and more sovereign in this new context, in cooperation with the United States and in defending our interests and values," Macron said.
The two leaders, along with EU and non-EU leaders, are meeting in Budapest in the coming days to discuss Europe's global competitiveness challenges among other issues. (see MNI: EU To Commit To Industrial Strategy - Draft Report )
