MNI BRIEF: Mann Re-appointed To BOE MPC, Term To End Aug 2027
Catherine Mann, who has been one of the most hawiksh members of the MPC, has been re-appointed to a second term.
Catherine Mann, a high profile hawk on the Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee, has been re-appointed to a second term three-year term which will end in August 2027.
Mann joined the MPC in September 2021 and Independent members typically serve for the maximum two-three year terms. She has built a reputation for making the hawkish policy case, based on concerns over high inflation feeding through to elevated inflation expectations and higher wage and price setting. She has voted for a 5.5% policy rate since August 2023 while the majority on the commmittee has stuck with a 5.25% peak.
There is speculation over whether Mann will finally change her call for a 25 basis point hike at the March meeting, with the MPC now centred on how long to keep policy on hold before implementing the first cut. (MNI INTERVIEW: UK Tax Cuts No Boost To Inflation- OBR's Miles)
