(MNI) LONDON
LONDON (MNI)

Lending to households picked up modestly in Q3 after contracting in both Q1 and Q2, the Central Bank of Ireland said Friday, although overall net borrowing fell in September. Loans for house purchase increased in net terms, up EUR80 million in Q3, less than a fifth of the EUR465 million seen in Q3 2019. However, the introduction of payment breaks earlier this year has counteracted recent declines seen in new lending. the CBI said,

Consumer lending stabilised following large declines in recent months, with drawdowns exceeding repayments in September. Over the quarter, however, households repaid EUR51 million more than they drew down, contributing to the annual decline of 4.4%.
