MNI BRIEF: Norges Bank Head Ida Wolden Bache Wins 6 Year Term

(MNI) London

Ida Wolden Bache has been given a six year term as Norges Bank Governor, the central bank confirmed Friday.

She was initially a stop-gap appointment to head the Norwegian central bank, set to fill in until current NATO Secretary General and former Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg took over. Russia's invasion of Ukraine saw Stoltenberg, however, extend his NATO leadership role for a year and he has given up the Norges Bank job, allowing Wolden Bache to become the permanent head. She presided over her first monetary policy meeting in March.

In an interview with MNI last week she said that while Norges Bank has, so far, hiked 25 basis points a quarter the tempo of rate increases could be accelerated.
