Reiwa Rincho, the national council on structural reforms, on Monday proposed a revision of the joint statement between the Bank of Japan and the government made in 2013, the Nikkei reported.

The entity proposed changing the achievement of 2% price target from "at the possible earliest time" to a long-term price target, and called on the BOJ to restore the functioning of financial markets and normalising of bond markets.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has indicated the government will consider revising the statement under the new BOJ governor who takes office in April.
