MNI BRIEF: RRF Agile Tool, Can Cope With Ukraine Crisis - EU

(MNI) Brussels

The EU Recovery and Resilience Fund is an “agile tool” and provides a good framework for helping the EU economy cope with the impact of the Ukraine crisis, according to the Head of The EU Commission’s RRF Taskforce Celine Gauer.

“It Is an agile tool and provides a good framework to weather that crisis, without a need for a new instrument,” Gauer said during a conference on the RRF at the EU Parliament today. “We have a very good tool for the past crisis, for this crisis and for any future ones."

The current RRF also had the resources available to help the EU rapidly diversify away from its dependence on Russian fuel supplies, she added. Gauer also said that the Commission’s annual economic policy advice to states, to be issued in May (Country Specific Recommendations), would also be used to update the RRF in the context of the current crisis.
