MNI BRIEF: Schumer Rejects GOP Offer, Eyes Bipartisan Relief

WASHINGTON (MNI)

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Tuesday dismissed an offer from Republican Mitch McConnell to drop liability reform and state and local aid in a relief package, accusing the GOP leader of attempting to quash bipartisan Covid relief talks.

"He's sabotaging, " Schumer said. "Senator McConnell is trying to pull the rug out from beneath the Gang of 8," he said, referring to a separate bipartisan group of legislators pushing for a package that totals USD908 billion that has gathered steam over the last week. McConnell has not endorsed the bipartisan proposal and has instead pushed for his own slimmed-down package.
