MNI BRIEF: US Small Business Price Hikes Strongest Since 1981

MNI (Washington)

American small businesses are planning the broadest price hikes in four decades as they struggle to find workers, the National Federation of Independent Business said Tuesday.

The percentage of owners raising average selling prices increased 7 points to a net 47%, the highest since 1981.

The group's monthly optimism index increased 2.9 points to 102.5, the highest since November. Still, owners expecting business conditions to improve over the next six months remained in "very negative territory" after increasing 14 points to a net negative 12%.
