MNI BRIEF: SNB Appoints NY Fed Advisor Martin To Policy Board
Antoine Martin to take up SNB role from Jan 1, replacing Andrea Maechler who left in June
The Swiss National Bank has appointed Antoine Martin, currently an advisor on Financial Stability Policy Research at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, to its Governing Board in replacement of Andrea Maechler, the central bank announced on Friday.
Martin, who will take up his new role from Jan 1, has broad practical experience, the SNB said, highlighting his research on monetary policy implementation, improvements in payment and settlement systems to mitigate systemic risk, and on the implications of central bank digital currencies for monetary policy.
Maechler left the SNB at the end of June to become deputy general manager at the Bank for International Settlements.
On Thursday, the SNB left interest rates unchanged at 1.75%. (MNI: SNB In Close Call, With 25Bp Hike On The Table-Economists)
