MNI BRIEF: Taiwan Retail Sales Up, Wholesale Trade Down in Mar

Taiwan ‘s retail trade sales increased 7.1% y/y in March, up from 4.6% in February, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs on Monday. Sales of food and beverage services grew by 9.8%, with restaurant spending up 9.34%. However, wholesale trade dropped 13.3% with Chemicals and machinery falling 23.5% and 21.74% respectively.

Taiwan’s economy is expected to grow moderately in H1 this year, as a drop in export demand is offset by consumption rebound, according to Central Bank comments at its most recent monetary policy meeting.
