MNI BRIEF: Trudeau Favors Green Spending Over Deficit Trim

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Tuesday subsidizing projects for a greener economy is more of a short-term priority than deficit reduction, some of his most detailed recent comments contrasting with Conservatives he trails in the polls -- and a central bank that has suggested fiscal and monetary policy could be at cross purposes fighting inflation.

“I understand that people need fiscal responsibility, but for me fiscal responsibility is yes, making judicious choices, but it’s also assuring that this generation is investing to build the prosperity of the next generation, " Trudeau said during an armchair talk at Montreal's chamber of commerce.
