MNI BRIEF: Trump Likely To Allow Powell To Serve Term - Moore
MNI (WASHINGTON) - There is an “80%” chance President-elect Donald Trump will allow Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell to serve out his full term that ends May 2026, Stephen Moore, a senior economic adviser for the incoming Trump administration said Thursday.
It is “pretty likely” but “not 100%” that Trump will allow Powell to serve his full term as Fed chair, Moore said at an event hosted by the Investment Company Institute in Washington. Moore said it is “criminal” that Powell “let inflation get as high as it did.”
“Jerome Powell is the most overrated man in America,” said Moore. He is urging the Trump administration to pass a tax bill as quickly as possible early next year “with as many things in the box as possible” and for tariffs that are “targeted.” (See: MNI INTERVIEW: Fed Closer To Slowing Rate Cut Pace - Kaplan)
