MNI BRIEF: UK Treasury Gives Extra GBP4.6bn In Lockdown Grants

LONDON (MNI)

The UK Treasury has announced a fresh slug of GBP4.6 billion in business grants to alleviate difficulties arising as the country is placed under another nationwide lockdown that will last at least seven weeks. The additional support is worth around 0.25% of GDP. The grants are for businesses in hospitality, retail and leisure. With the maximum grant set at GBP9,000 they are targeted at keeping smaller firms alive in the sectors that have been forced to shut.
