MNI BRIEF: US Budget Deficit Widens To Record $840B Thru Jan

MNI (WASHINGTON) - The U.S. budget deficit has grown to a record USD840 billion in the first four months of the fiscal year, up USD308 billion or 58% from the same time last year, the Treasury Department reported Wednesday. 

January 2025 had a monthly deficit of USD129 billion, a jump of USD107 billion from last January's USD22 billion deficit. Monthly outlays of USD642 billion and receipts of USD513 billion were both records.
