MNI: Bundesbank Expects "Powerful Recovery" to Continue in Q1

By Christian Vits
     FRANKFURT (MNI) - The Bundesbank forecasts a strong economic expansion in
the first quarter of this year, as order books remain full and private
consumption is buoyant.
     "The powerful recovery of the German economy should continue in the first
three months of the year," the bank said in its monthly bulletin published
Monday. "Based on large orders, industry is the backbone of the economic
development," it added.
     The Bundesbank also noted strong momentum in the construction sector, where
the assessment of the business situation jumped to a record high.
     Moreover, the "unabated strong dynamic" in the labour market supports
private consumption, the report said.
