    • The Chicago Business Barometer eased by 0.7pt in Aug to the lowest level since June.
    • This marks the second straight reading above the 50-mark, having registered below it for a full year, as firms stated that business activity picked up further in Aug.
    • Among the main five indicators Order Backlogs (46.2) was the only category to show a m/m decline, while Supplier Del (64.5) saw the largest gain.
    • Production (52.0) and New Orders (53.5) ticked up again in Aug, as did Employment (41.1), although companies noted staff reductions as a result of the pandemic.
    • Among all indicators Inventories saw the largest fall, dropping 9pt to 37.3 with firms running down stocks they built up during the crisis.
    • The majority of respondents (55.6%) forecast to operate at full capacity in 2021 or later, while only 26.7% are back at normal capacity already. (Survey Aug 3 -17)
