MNI: CORONAVIRUS UPDATE:
Global count now likely to top 90,000 by the end of the day, with South Korea
still the biggest contributor to the rise in cases:
- China reported a rise of 202 cases to 80,026.
- South Korea reported a rise of 599 cases to 4,335.
- Italy reported 1,703 cases, Iran 978 cases.
- Iran reported 1,501 cases, a rise of more than 500 but independent reports
suggest the total could be much higher.
The UK government this weekend declared that they will "stop at nothing" to
tackle the outbreak, and are preparing drastic measures to stop the spread in an
effort to delay any outbreak until Summer.
OECD have warned that global GDP could contract in Q1 on the economic ripples of
Coronavirus. They add that coordinated action is needed if the outbreak worsens.
Central banks including the Fed, BoJ and BoE have attempted to soothe markets by
stating they are ready to act should the virus pose a considerable economic
risk.
