Japan consumer confidence index rose for a third straight month in July to a seasonally adjusted 29.5 from 28.4 in June, the latest Consumer Confidence Survey published by the Cabinet Office showed Friday.

Consumers were more optimistic on all four key sentiment sectors; overall economic well-being, labor market condition, income conditions, and the next six months would be good time to buy durable goods.

The Cabinet Office left its assessment from the previous month, noting confidence remains at depressed levels but showed signs of recovering.

The sub-index on asset prices, not included in calculating overall consumer confidence, rose 0.4 points to 33.2 after gaining 3.3 points to 32.8 in June.

The share of respondents projecting consumer price gains rose to 73.7% in July, after falling 0.8 points to 71.5% in June. The share of respondents forecasting lower prices fell to 9.5% in July from 11.0% in June. May's index rebounded from April's 21.6, which was the lowest level since April 2004, when the survey was first released on a monthly basis.
