MNI DATA PREVIEW: EZ Flash Consumer Confidence August 2019

LONDON (MNI) - EZ Flash Consumer Confidence (Aug 2019) Preview (1500BST)
----------------------------------------------------------------
- Bloomberg Consensus: -7.0; MNI Median: -6.8; Prev (Jun): -6.6
- Markets look for consumer confidence to have fallen in August...
-...after it edged up 0.6 points to -6.6 in July, a two-months high
- After falling throughout most of 2018, CC started to trend sideways in 2019
- July's uptick was led by consumers improved perception of their past financial
situation and their expectations about the general economic situation...
-...while their expected financial situation and their intentions to make major
purchases remained unchanged
- Recently falling equity prices (historically reasonably well correlated with
consumer confidence) reveal a downside risk to Aug's reading
- Low inflation and a supportive policy environment should help confidence...
-...however, a number of domestic and international uncertainties continue to
weigh on consumer's sentiment going forward
