MNI: GERMAN DATA: Industrial Production (Aug 2019) Preview - 07:00 BST
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Bloomberg Consensus: -0.1% m/m, -4.3% y/y; Prev (Jul): -0.6% m/m, -4.2% y/y
- Markets look for the German monthly IP to fall for the third successive month
in August, although at a slower pace than in July.
- On the other hand, yearly output is forecast to deteriorate again in August.
- Forward-looking indicators paint a downbeat picture:
- Germany's PMI slumped to a 10-year low in September (41.7), which was driven
by a sharp fall in output and new orders.
- As the ifo expectations index fell further in September, the European
Commission's ESI touched an 83-month low for German industry sentiment.
- The outlook for Germany's manufacturing sector remains challenging given the
unresolved global uncertainties (Brexit, trade wars, tariffs, etc) that continue
to weigh on sentiment, investment and demand.
