MNI Global Morning Briefing
LONDON (MNI) - Thursday's three key data releases are Spain's November
flash HICP at 0800GMT, the BOE's October money and credit data at 0930GMT and
initial jobless claims in the US at 1330GMT.
The minutes of the Fed's November meeting will also be a stand out later in
the day.
ECB Executive Board member Sabine Lautenschlaeger speaks at 0630GMT is at
the 20th International Conference of Banking in Abu Dhabi.
ECB President Mario Draghi speaks at a Global Research Forum in Frankfurt
at 0800GMT.
Spain's HICP rate is due at 0800GMT. It remained unchanged in October from
September at 2.3% y/y.
Money and credit data for October from the Bank of England comes a day
after the stress test results were released. Mortgage approvals dropped in
September to 63,500 and the volatile net credit data dipped to stg0.8 bn. Thus,
it will be interesting to see if some form of recovery happened in the month of
October.
Concluding the European speeches at 1315GMT, ECB Supervisory Board member
Ignazio Angeloni speaks in Milan.
The level of US initial jobless claims is expected to fall by 9,000 to a
215,000 level in the November 24 holiday week after an increase of 3,000 to
224,000 level in the previous week. The level of claims has been elevated above
the prevailing trend in recent weeks, possibly due to seasonal adjustment
difficulties around the Veteran's Day holiday. The four-week moving average
would hold steady in the coming week as the 215,000 level in the October 27
rolls out of the calculation, assuming the MNI forecast is correct and there are
no revisions.
The US speeches begin at 1900GMT when Chicago Federal Reserve Bank
President Charles Evans doing a Q&A session in Boston, Massachusetts.
At the same time and probably what markets will be focused on is the
Federal Reserve releasing the November FOMC meeting minutes.
At 2000GMT is Dallas Federal Reserve Bank President Rob Kaplan speaking in
Boston, Massachusetts.
