MNI POLITICAL RISK - 60% Of Americans To Watch First Debate
- The first 2024 presidential debate takes place this evening at 21:00 ET 02:00 BST. It will be the first opportunity for the presumptive nominees, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, to make their pitch to a wide audience and set the tone of the election campaign for the coming months.
- Unusually stable polling and increasingly siloed partisan voter blocs mean the debate could prove consequential in breaking through to the small number of independent swing state voters who will determine the winner. Find a round-up of notable polling on the debate inside.
- Former Republican House Representative Adam Kinzinger, an outspoken Trump critic, has endorsed Biden's re-election campaign, calling on moderates to, “unite behind Joe Biden...”
- Biden may have a path to winning the election through his unusual competitiveness among voters who just “somewhat” disapprove of his job performance, according to analysis from Sabato's Crystal Ball.
- Trump’s prospective vice presidents will travel to Atlanta to attend an RNC fundraiser and presidential debate watch party, with Trump's Veep selection to come as soon as this week.
- The Supreme Court yesterday handed Democrats a win by rejecting a states-led attempt to limit the federal government’s power to discuss content moderation with social media companies. The court has 10 more opinions to release over the next two days, including the major decision on Trump's immunity.
- Poll of the Day: An "outlier" NYT survey gives Trump, "his best result in a reputable national survey in months."
