  • Former President Donald Trump has spoken out against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KT) on the Republican National Committee dispute. Trump said: ‘Mitch McConnell does not speak for the Republican Party and does not represent the views of the vast majority of its voters...'
  • The Department of Homeland Security has warned similar protests to those ongoing in Canada could spread south of the border. Plans are reportedly underway for a protest in Washington DC and the DHS said that protests could block roads in major cities and target the Super Bowl or the State of the Union address.
  • US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has used the QUAD summit in Australia to affirm US commitment to AUKUS, the trilateral military alliance of the US, the UK, and Australia.
  • Democrats have urged a deal on the JCPOA (Iran nuclear deal) after a closed Senate briefing by Special Envoy to Iran Robert Malley. Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) said: ‘I see no way to stop Iran’s progress other than re-entering this deal. And I left the briefing more certain than ever that we better be serious about trying to get back into an agreement.’
  • Senator Richard Shelby (AL), the ranking Republican on the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced yesterday that negotiators have reached a ‘breakthrough’ on government funding although the issue of 'federal funding for crackpipes' made it all the way to the White House.
