MEPs to elect new European Commission; UK Chancellor addresses business leaders at CBI; Ireland holds general election

Monday 25 November:
- United Kingdom: The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) holds its annual conference. The event sees a number of prominent political and economic speakers take the stage. Leader of the Opposition Kemi Badenoch delivers a speech at 1330GMT (0830ET, 1430CET). The main event will come at 1610GMT (1110ET, 1710CET) when Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves takes part in a fireside chat where she is expected to defend her Budget in front of business leaders. CBI CEO Rain Newton-Smith said in her opening remarks that the National Insurance increase on employers announced in the Budget “caught us all off guard” and that “Tax rises like these must never again simply be done to business”.
- G7: A Foreign Affairs Ministers’ meeting takes place in Fiuggi-Anagni. This will mark the final G7 for any Biden administration officials, as well as for EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell. The two-day event will focus on the conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza, and Lebanon. The first session focused on the Middle East has ministers from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, and Qatar participating, as well as the Secretary-General of the Arab League.
