MNI POLITICAL RISK - Final Vote On Ukraine+ Bill Expected Weds

US
  • The Senate worked through the weekend to clear another procedural hurdle on the USD$95 billion national security supplemental package which includes fresh funding for Ukraine, Israel, and other US allies. The procedural vote tees up a final vote no later than Wednesday as the Senate wears down opposition from conservative Republican senators.
  • Should the Senate pass the package, as is now expected, House Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) will be put in a bind. The Speaker is aligned with a conservative faction opposed to Ukraine funding but there is likely sufficient bipartisan support in the House for the package to pass.
  • President Biden told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday that, “a military operation in Rafah should not proceed without a credible and executable plan," for ensuring the safety of civilians.
  • Biden will appear alongside King Abdullah of Jordan at a rare joint White House press conference today.
  • NATO allies are recalibrating their 2024 outlook after former President Donald Trump appeared to suggest that he would refuse to support NATO countries who have not met alliance funding benchmarks if they are attacked by Russia.
  • Speaker Johnson is expected to hold a second vote on impeaching Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday.
  • Former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan's (R) surprise late entry into the Maryland Senate race is unlikely to end Democrat dominance in the state.
  • Poll of the Day: 59% of voters believe that both Biden and Trump are too old for another term.
