  • The US is set to unveil a “major” new Russia sanctions package today. The package, which includes more than 500 new sanctions, comes on the eve of the two-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and in the aftermath of the death of Russian opposition figure, Alexei Navalny.
  • Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) arrived in Kyiv this morning, becoming the highest-ranking member of Congress to visit Ukraine since former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in May 2022. Schumer's trip has two goals – to reassure Ukraine that they have America’s support and to increase pressure on House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to allow a vote on the USD$95 billion foreign aid supplemental.
  • At 12:30 ET 17:30 GMT, Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo, will deliver remarks on, “the U.S.-led international coalition’s strategy to hold Russia accountable, and the work ahead.”
  • Republican defense hawks have criticised the House Freedom Caucus for pushing a full-year Continuing Resolution as their preferred strategy for avoiding a government shutdown.
  • Nikki Haley has escalated attacks on former President Donald Trump ahead of the South Carolina Republican presidential primary on Saturday.
  • The White House has warned of sanctions on Iran if they deliver ballistic missiles to Russia.
  • Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Chris Murphy (D-CT) are optimistic about the future of US-Turkey relations after a meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan this week.
