MNI POLITICAL RISK- US Warns Israel Against War With Hezbollah
Executive Summary:
- US officials are cautioning Israel against a full-scale war with Lebanon-based Hezbollah, but privately conveying to the Iran-backed militia that the US will back Israel if a war breaks out. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant against an escalation with Hezbollah and urged Israel to present a credible plan for the post-war governance of Gaza – a major sticking point for the US, and for a ceasefire agreement.
- Two advisors of former President Donald Trump have presented him a plan for resolving the war between Russia and Ukraine - the most detailed to be released on Trump’s Ukraine strategy if he wins a second term in November.
- Despite widespread reports of sanctions evasion, US-led export controls on Russia are much more effective than they are made out to be in the press, according to an expert.
- Former President Donald Trump is reportedly in talks to speak at the Bitcoin 2024 convention in Nashville on July 25-27, a sign of the GOP's growing embrace of crypto.
- Trump may have repaired some bridges with business leaders, but no Fortune 100 CEOs have financially backed his campaign – a signal that corporate American remains sceptical of his agenda.
- Sixteen Nobel prize-winning economists, led by Joseph Stiglitz, have penned a letter warning that Trump’s proposed economic agenda could exacerbate inflation.
- Poll of the Day: Current polling shows a closer presidential race, "than the final November polls did in any election of the last two decades."
